Who created Logomeditation
Twenty years of one question.
How does a person get back the eyes that see what life is asking — and then answer it?
Logomeditation is a structured contemplative method grounded in Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy — from the Greek logos, meaning. Not from “logo,” the commercial mark.
Julius Barreto-Lins, MD, MPH, PhD
Creator of Logomeditation™. Physician, scientist, builder.
He created Logomeditation over more than twenty years, joining scientific rigour to contemplative depth. MD; MPH — MSc in Public Health; PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology. Two decades of meditative training under contemplative masters in two great traditions. He builds health organizations and develops the people inside them, and he wrote the twelve-week curriculum, the method’s grammar, and its written corpus.
The method was not invented at a desk. Its conceptual matrix was developed and defended academically in a master’s dissertation awarded the highest mark, and the groups that formed it included people in extreme social circumstances, referred by family medicine services.
Julius Barreto-Lins is the author name of Julio Antunes Barreto Lins. Julio is simply the Portuguese form of Julius; the English form is used for readers who would otherwise stumble over the spelling. The two names refer to one person.
Paula Barreto-Lins, MSc
Co-founder and wife. Clinical psychologist, MSc in Anthropology, psychotherapist.
More than thirty years in the practice and teaching of psychotherapy — existential-phenomenological, informed by logotherapy. She is known for asking the question that changes whoever sets out to answer it.
She is also the method’s co-founder in the fullest sense: not a name added to a title, but a psychotherapist and contemplative who has lived this practice daily for decades, and who shaped it from inside the clinical room. She is Julius’s beloved wife, and Logomeditation was built by the two of them together — his the anthropology and the science, hers the listening and the phenomenology of the interior life — over a marriage and a shared vocation. The method did not come from a desk; it came from a life two people have been building side by side.
And the tree at the top of this page is hers. She painted it. It is not a stock illustration bought to decorate a brand; it is the visual identity of her husband’s life work, made by the hand of the person who has practised that work beside him the longest. The radiance at the heart of the crown, the fruit, the bird in flight — these are one contemplative’s reading of what the method opens in a person.
Paula Barreto-Lins is her married name. Her clinical and academic work appears under Paula de Vasconcelos Lira, her maiden name. The two names refer to one person.
The school being built
Logomeditation is not only a method. It is the nucleus of a school — in the older sense: an organized tradition of study, practice, formation, research, supervision, and transmission.
The entry path is deliberate. First a person lives the twelve weeks and knows the method by experience rather than description. Then, if they choose, they enter the facilitator training. Then they integrate it into the profession they already hold. A clinic-school offers groups to the public, gives students a supervised field of practice, produces data, and refers onward whatever needs specialist care.
The current task is not to invent the method. It is to systematize it, translate it, protect it, research it, and present it internationally — and to build the institutions capable of outlasting its author.
This was built by two. It continues through many.
What began in one clinical room is becoming a community of facilitators across countries. If helping people find meaning is your calling too, we will send you how to join that work.
